"Plants detect neighboring vegetation as potential competitors for resources. Vegetation proximity is perceived by changes in the red (R) to far-red (FR) ratio (R:FR) through the phytochrome photoreceptors." well damn

They don’t have claws if you’re worried about being pinched. They are filter feeders. Very chill.

In Iceland we have a word for feeling really guilty for staying inside on a sunny day, because they are so rare and precious. We call it "sólviskubit" and it sounds a lot like "samviskubit" which means having a guilty conscious. And I am suffering from a sólviskubit right now.

“Uncanny valley”: Unease from viewing a computer-generated figure that is almost but not quite realistic. “Trash crevasse”: Disgust from viewing generative AI artwork that looks sloppy, plagiarizes from artists, and sucks back more water and power than a small country.

As someone who has to process form inputs… I know exactly why that is there.

Almost certainly priced for video rental stores rather than direct to consumer. It was common business practice for a while to price tapes out of the range of (most) consumers. The home market centered around rentals for a long time.

Surprising talk from company that releases Impact Factors: “We can no longer assume that the ‘best’ journals are the most highly cited(.) High quality can no longer be equated with high impact – instead quality should now be equated with trustworthiness.” www.researchinformation.info/analysis-opi...

It’s been a long standing and MAJOR criticism of Impact Factors that people could NOT reproduce the results. Even motivated editors with full knowledge of everything they published in their journal couldn’t duplicate the calculated Impact Factor.

New Impact Factors out today with this change:

“Full transparency into data underlying the citation statistics for each journal enables you to see each and every article and citation that has contributed to a journal’s scholarly impact.”

This seems important. 🧵
