"Plants detect neighboring vegetation as potential competitors for resources. Vegetation proximity is perceived by changes in the red (R) to far-red (FR) ratio (R:FR) through the phytochrome photoreceptors." well damn

3d printed Confuciusornis skulls. Confuciusornis was a prehistoric bird, the first known with a beak (I think).

Creatures that live deep underground often have close relatives that still live on the surface.

These surface dwellers typically look "normal" and lack the strange features that their subterranean cousins have. 🎨 🐡

Thresher sharks use the upper lobe of their caudal fin, which can be as long as the rest of the shark, as a whip to stun prey fishes!

At the emergency vet with the dog. Sigh.

(It's not immediate life or death, but scheduled appointments are like 2 weeks out and this probably needs attention within the next day or so.)

It's also like $200 just to be here, so it anyone wants to throw some money my way patreon.com/BlueAppaloosa

it's incredible for displaying portfolio, you could rearrange your gallery in case you want one thing next to another, ignoring the chrono order. it also looks sleek. the community is largely entertainment industry artists though, so i personally don't invest much time there.

the art circles seem to be doing fine, actually! in science circles, i'm suspecting it has something to do with critical mass as others suggested. there have been multiple big waves where artists ran away from twitter/meta's content scraping policies, but i don't see this happening to scientists.
