A question: why does no one refer to these plans to eradicate the civil service as “Tammany Hall gone national?” I didn’t understand exactly what Tammany Hall s when it came up in school (in the 1970’s) and in discourse, but I knew it meant corruption, and that corruption was bad.

The view from Canada: the American "Right" wing doesn't actually care what the American public wants -- they figure they can get away with ignoring such trivialities..
(To be fair, the Canadian "Right" wing is following a very similar path, even if not _quite_ as far along that path as in the USA)
