Leading privacy advocate @nullset.bsky.social says new version of APRA stripping civil rights protections to ward off data discrimination + algorithmic bias "make it nearly impossible for civil society to support the bill." New draft also cuts other data protections

I don't think most "modern" men consider themselves beleaguered by an inarticulable persecutor and interpret all new information as evidence of their "perceived" victimhood. That's like MAGA cult shit. There's a lot of them but they are by no means a majority, and there's nothing modern about it.

… What pressure points does Trump have on Gaza at all?? Pretty much none. Heck there’s even Republican electeds openly calling for Netanyahu to nuke the place.
You might not move Biden. You definitely won’t move Trump. Some chance > no chance.

… So the better way to think about it is, of the two possible administrations, which one might Gaza activists be able to force some concessions from?
Biden probably doesn’t want a full-on genocide on his legacy, wants Dems to hold the WH in ‘28, Dems have a progressive wing in the party…

You’re thinking in quid pro quo terms: if you vote for me, I will do X, Y, and Z. That’s not the right frame. Biden isn’t going to promise them anything because he’s clearly calculated that he can be for Israel or for Gaza but not both. He’s obviously chosen the former…

Their anger is justified. They should nevertheless vote for Biden because the election still determines the political conditions under which future advocacy for the Palestinian cause will occur, and that’s easily more favorable with Biden than DT. Not to mention literally every other issue.

I wasn’t trying to win anyone over, just pointing out that the U.S. working class has a lot of real problems and Trump being prosecuted is not among them.
If people insist on believing the opposite there may be different ways of responding to that, but let’s begin with recognizing it’s nonsense.

What actually keeps them down: exploitative rents, barely or unaffordable higher education and healthcare, wretched consumer protections, inaccessible courts, nutrition misinformation, abusive credit and background scoring, 1,000 (other) manifestations of racism, and a broken political system.

Yeah, that makes sense although I just looked at this map and Ohio actually has a higher percentage of urban population than Michigan.
I think another factor could be that southern Ohio is more like Kentucky or West Virginia culturally than other MW states (ditto Indiana).

Seems strange to me that Ohio is so much redder than PA, Michigan, Illinois, or Wisconsin.

I haven’t been to Lansing in 20 years and never really knew it well to begin with. But I did stay at the Minneapolis Graduate last week and found it to be a generally outstanding hotel. The lobby was especially fantastic. Only disappointment was no way to do pull-ups in the fitness center.

Yeah. I mean, I am sure actual wait times have ebbed & flowed and have grown longer over time. But the waits have always been really long. Like, if something ought to take 1 month and used to take 6 months, well that's still a really long wait even if now it takes 12 months.
Good luck on the GC!

What part do you not think is true? Before the Department of Homeland Security was created, the old I.N.S. had legendary paperwork delays.
I think the ability of progressive lawmakers to address things like processing times is severely limited because of hostile agency staff.

Perhaps, but keep in mind that U.S. immigration paperwork backlogs have existed for decades and no serious effort has ever been made to resolve them. The resulting delays are thus quite clearly intentional.

Step 5: wait 6 months to 2 years for interview abroad.
Step 6: go to interview with no guarantee of approval. Pray you can come home.
That is absurd and shameful. Anyone married to a U.S. citizen should be able to adjust status automatically and I don’t see why anyone should be against that.

Here’s how a former colleague of mine who is an immigration lawyer explained the current process for adjusting status if you entered the USA without inspection and are now married to a U.S. citizen:
Step 1: submit family petition to Homeland Security and pray you don’t get picked up. 1-2 yr wait …

I read all the comments and realized I have some opinions! I only have room for two:
1) Jif is not good PB. It is loaded with sugar and chemicals. Good PB should have two ingredients: peanuts & salt.
2) Boxed Mac & Cheese isn't worth it. From scratch is easy, almost as quick, and customizable.

"Wango Tango" by Ted Nugent.
Really, any song by Ted Nugent. Also: other things by Ted Nugent that are not songs. Really, just Ted Nugent in general.

Not to mention his war on public schools and vetoes of bipartisan legislation. Youngkin has followed the MAGA blueprint the whole time, right on down to his dog whistle confederate flag campaign signs. Any suggestion that he’s wanted to be “pragmatic” is just false propaganda.

It’s seriously painful to think where the USA might be now if the Gore and HRC had gotten those votes in 2000 and 2016 compared to where the country is now.

Unfortunately historical facts and reason don’t matter with this SCOTUS. The Second Amendment could say “personal gun ownership shall be strictly prohibited” and the RW6 would still find a way to say the constitution broadly allows it.

Coincidentally I am visiting Minneapolis for the first time since 2005 this week for a legal aid conference, and rode the blue line from the airport to the green line and got off at the East Bank station to check in at a The Graduate hotel. I’m impressed!

Senate Republicans just blocked a bill to establish enforceable ethics rules for the Supreme Court.
Justices take lavish gifts from MAGA donors & fly the flag of open bias in cases before them.
We need to abolish the filibuster, pass a code of ethics, & put term limits on the Court.
