I recently saw @beijingpalmer.bsky.social use the term “Internet of Beefs” and it suddenly clarified a whole bunch of stuff for me. In the grim darkness of the internet, there is no meaningful discussion, only Beef.

Dunno if I'm comfortable pointing at the exact article in public, especially as I found another one on the Orange Site which propagates exactly the same fallacy, but "Thing X" is "calculate transcendental functions", and how computers do it is not usually with Taylor series, or at least not well.

I watched a lot of demos as a teen but one day I saw Komische Sackratten von der Höhle (The Lost Boys, 1991) and my life was never the same again: programming style, musical taste, how I felt about art and to some extent career decisions all stemmed from wanting to be more like.. whatever that was.

Rain Tree Crow was meant to be a Japan reunion album except they couldn’t stay together long enough to do anything after that. It’s all improvised, and I love it more than anything by actual Japan. It’s the perfect album for being a moody teenager to.
