I'd be interested in the SVQ here, as this got a bizarre number of points relative to their other big ones (and Valli's solo numbers). I was particularly surprised Valli's "Swearin' to God" didn't do well, as that seems to have had a recent(ish) boost in popularity through remixes and what not.

Berry, Buck, Mills and Stipe playing together as R.E.M. tonight at the Songwriters Hall of Fame(!!) induction ceremony merits a newsletter about fandom, growing with our favorite music and (of course) the lovely "Losing My Religion" performance. anniezaleski.substack.com/p/oh-life-it...

Day 12 - A song from one of your fav movies.
My first thought was "Kool Thing" by Sonic Youth, used brilliantly for a dance scene in Hal Hartley's Simple Men š But I recently saw the original inspiration for that scene and it blew me away. Madison!

My first heartbreaking #UncoolTwo50 casualty - somehow this got a video but was never a single. š Would've been a singleton 10 pts I'm sure but still.
Anyway, have a listen if you like the idea of 1985 power pop built from the guitar and bass melodies of two different New Order songs. And knitwear.

Locates you better than dates you! All this says is that you are anywhere between 35 and 110 years old.

(Plus a little spoiler that, yes, I'll be doing some kamikaze vote splitting with my favourite Bowie single should it make the cut)

This post prompted me to start the hard work. Making the 458-song longlist was all fun and games, but now for "was it even a single?" and "if so, when?" #UncoolTwo50

Day 8 - A song by a local artist
Three months from now this would have to be New Order or James, most locally, but for now here are Utrecht's finest:

Hmm maybe yes. But this many people being fooled by obvious nonsense from a professional stand up comedian will never not be funny to me.

Did a double take when the article described early single āYou Could Have Been A Ladyā as "the missing link between āSympathy For The Devilā [...] and Primal Screamās āLoadedā" - surely that link is so obvious there's nothing missing? But it's spot on!

By some distance my least favourite Beatles single. Good that only 6 out of 115(ish?) people thought it worthy of inclusion!

The one " wait, is that true?" that stuck out for me was the mention of āNever Knew Love Like This Beforeā by Stephanie Mills. I figured it was my Dutch perspective, since in the NL this was a #1 hit. So I looked it up and indeed, in the US it wasn't - there it merely won a Grammy.
