38-9-3 is almost exactly the makeup of my 50! For me this is particular to the era, as US:UK was roughly 1:1 for my FoM (but with way more from outside those two) and Iā€™m projecting a large UK plurality (maybe majority) for my U50.

Het was de bedoeling dat ik ook zou kijken naar klinkers voor /r/ in mijn proefschrift, maar dat is er uiteindelijk niet van gekomen wegens te weinig data. Ik meen dat dat voorbeeld van -or/-oor > beide als -oor ook al in Booij (1995) staat (met Cor/koor als vb), maar kan het hier nu niet nazoeken.

Ik denk dat je ook iets te genereus bent als je haar ergens "te slim" voor noemt. Ze heeft natuurlijk een bepaald soort intelligentie, anders promoveer je niet in de microbiologie, maar net als bij haar vakgenoot Plasterk lijkt die zeer beperkt en niet te veralgemeniseren tot feitenkennis of logica.

Ik weet niet hoe "gevierd" ze was, maar voor mij waren haar columns destijds een belangrijke reden om de NRC op te zeggen. Natuurlijk kĆŗn je als columnist zomaar wat roepen elke week, maar haar columns stonden altijd zo vol onzin en redeneerfouten dat ze zelfs in die rol niet serieus te nemen was.

I'd be interested in the SVQ here, as this got a bizarre number of points relative to their other big ones (and Valli's solo numbers). I was particularly surprised Valli's "Swearin' to God" didn't do well, as that seems to have had a recent(ish) boost in popularity through remixes and what not.

I feel it may have something to do with the tactics shifting away from "get the ball to Lewandowski asap and wait for magic" towards passing the ball around and trying to create something. Sadly the Polish W/L stats disagree with my intuition there...

My first thought was "Kool Thing" by Sonic Youth, used brilliantly for a dance scene in Hal Hartley's Simple Men šŸ’™ But I recently saw the original inspiration for that scene and it blew me away. Madison!

Did a double take when the article described early single ā€˜You Could Have Been A Ladyā€™ as "the missing link between ā€˜Sympathy For The Devilā€™ [...] and Primal Screamā€™s ā€˜Loadedā€™" - surely that link is so obvious there's nothing missing? But it's spot on!

The one " wait, is that true?" that stuck out for me was the mention of ā€œNever Knew Love Like This Beforeā€ by Stephanie Mills. I figured it was my Dutch perspective, since in the NL this was a #1 hit. So I looked it up and indeed, in the US it wasn't - there it merely won a Grammy.
