Realistically I think you should probably expect that a third of the parliament of any European country are likely to be insane people from now on. The goal is to keep that the ceiling. This may be pessimistic but this is linked to that being the proportion of our citizens which are insane
Agree. (Also ideally that insane proportion is diffused through multiple political parties, i.e, don't do stupid shit like Macron's re-elect and go out of your way to destroy the centre-right.)
Also, welcome to America, guys.
Here's your flag T-shirt, your gun, and a voucher for $20 worth of fast food.
Sorry, couldn't resist. But it's been that way stateside for at least 30 years. I don't know what it's going to take for humans to get smarter or saner but I'm sick of it.
Yep.
Not just Europe tho.
Australia has a PR system, compulsory voting, an independent Electoral Commission and we vote on weekends. Plus, we get a sausage sizzle.
Good for keeping the 1/3rd in check (they still sneak into our senate but)
Left or centrist politicians seem unable or afraid to have interesting or entertaining personalities. Like it or not, the current system is about figureheads and relatability. I don’t like it being that way, but left wing blandness is a gift to the right.
I've been saying it for ages: roughly 20% of the electorate are cunts who will vote for the worst possible people every time. The other 10% are largely apathetic low-information voters going along with the zeitgeist.
We try to keep it not going over 2/3 here.
Mainly as we have to fight with: THE WAR™️! BUT OUR RELIGIOUS ROOTED NATION! And now NEW shit to the podium: THE US SAID WE WHITE, SO WE WHITE AND HATE ALL NON WHITE!
*rubs temples* We used to be considered progressive and NAM....

The question, I guess, is whether that proportion is a fixed quantity, or a steadily increasing one
back in the '00s a blogger created the term 'crazification factor' to describe the roughly 20-30% of people who are just utterly disconnected from reality, when out-of-state, last-minute, total-looney canadidate alan keyes won 27% of the Illinois vote against obama
it's a long term problem
I think the ceiling can be reduced.
I believe that c.20% of humans, any where, any time, are temperamentally disposed to authoritarianism.
The trick is to stop that 20% taking leadership of other blocs - the "mainstream" right (or left) seeking an electoral coalition, or the apolitical.
