What’s the point of building small apartments if banks won’t give people mortgages for anything smaller than 50sqm? (Which in my humble probably too European opinion is pretty fucking big if you’re living and buying solo)

I just wanna live near work, near activities, near supermarkets with my dog in a warm dry place that I can afford and yes that seems to be an impossible ask

My 40m2 apartment in the city is all I need. I tried the big house, big garden, double garage life in the outer suburbs but it was what my ex wanted, not me. Banks absolutely should give mortgages to owner/occupiers for apartments - it would actually prevent them turning into slums.
