I’m glad they’re talking to students but it’s interesting that the article doesn’t actually interview any Jewish students who have expressed fear or experienced antisemitism within or outside the campus. All we get are assertions by a Jewish student supportive of the protests that all is good.

Evidence for this assertion? Keep in mind that in most cases “Gazans” aren’t the ones who need convincing, it’s Hamas holding the bulk of the hostages. They have the food, water and fuel they need to hold out, and 2-3 years worth of rockets. They don’t give a shit about ordinary Gazans.

This is also how the US estimated ISIS militant vs civilian casualties. In a war where the enemy wears civilian clothing and conducts warfare from civilian locations, there’s no other metric to use while the fighting is ongoing.

Did you read beyond the headline? The proposal is for diaspora concerns to be represented in Knesset by one or two MKs. Not to obligate diaspora Jews in any way to serve in the IDF. It would have a small moderating influence on the Knesset IMHO.

I am strongly against Bibi but I have to disagree with your assessment. The war cabinet consists of more than Bibi. There’s Gantz and Gallant also, and they’re not fascists. Public opinion in Israel is strongly in favor of prosecuting this war. Any PM would’ve done it.

Assuming Biden’s aims are what he stated publicly- Israel should Hamas, minimize civilian casualties, get done ASAP and have a postwar plan- how does the US abstention or vote in favor of THIS resolution support those aims? I don’t see how it would.

This seems over simplistic. For one thing, the majority of Jewish voters in Israel are in favor of military action in Gaza to return the hostages and destroy Hamas. Any Israeli government would do essentially what this war cabinet is doing.

Hamas is running out of (non uniformed) women and children hostages to exchange. If they offered women soldier hostages, or men, there might be the opportunity to extend the pause. Otherwise, Israel is determined to get the remaining hostages through military means.
