I just finished The Red Scholar's Wake and I loved it so much! The ships are people with all the complexity and nuance that brings. The parent-child dynamics are so well done. And the romance is both delightful and deals with shame and feeling like you're not good enough. Highly recommend!

I'm still masking and eating outside. The solidarity of this online community has been so important to me, because I knew almost no one in real life masking for a long time. My biggest win is my yoga teacher now thinks about ventilation in class and I take my air filter every week 🎉

Absolutely extraordinary story out today from The Guardian's Harry Davies on Israel and the ICC. Really solid reporting from that team and the folks at 972 mag + Local Call. www.theguardian.com/world/articl...

‘All the people burned’: Horrific scenes are being reported from a Gaza hospital after Israel bombed a camp housing displaced Palestinians near Rafah, in an area designated as a safe zone.

For whoever needs to hear it today: taking precautions to avoid catching covid does NOT make you an "anxious" person!! It's not unreasonable to want to keep yourself/others healthy! Anyone who says you're a burden or should "compromise" by putting yourself at risk should go kick rocks for eternity.

This is the counter to "oh not everybody can care about every issue/not everybody talks in public about everything they care about" discourse. These statements are meaninglessly accurate in some general abstract sense but fail immediately when you make them specifically about Palestine.

Very cool. Betsy Ladyzhets and Miles Griffis have launched THE SICK TIMES--a new digital newsroom devoted to covering long COVID.
Here's the launch letter, and there's a newsletter you can subscribe to: thesicktimes.org/newsletter/
I trust these folks and am excited to see where this goes.

Thanks so much! Painting with bright colours is my self care! I've never used oils before so definitely in awe of artists who do 🙂 Hope your day is improving

I've been learning to paint quite buildings with watercolour, and I had so much fun doing this sketch of my friend's house this week. They said it gave them a lot of joy, which made it even better 😊 Hope this helps a little, and you're able to get some rest tonight!

'For years, we’ve known that our humanity, as Palestinians, was conditional in the eyes of the world—and even when granted, never fully recognized. We were occasionally given this privilege if we were polite, reserved, almost invisible.'

Nightshade lets artists make imperceptible pixel changes to their art so that generative AI models trained on it break in chaotic and unpredictable ways. Ooh, deterrence!

Yes, and I'd love to then be able to exchange it for a moment of everyday joy I've inadvertently forgotten! How do we set this up?
