Anyone have any experience using Starlink (asking for someone who will be in the middle of nowhere for two week)

Buddy just got back from a week fly fishing somewhere in Canada where he had to fly in on a float plane and bought a starlink terminal for the purpose, I’ll ask how it went.

My dad does, I can ask him? (He is also about to be in the middle of nowhere for two weeks.)

So…a friend of a friend uses it and says that it never fails and is always super fast and he supposedly does government contracting which warrants a ton of devices running on the same system daily. He paid $1k to purchase the home set up and like $50/month. I’m thinking about it for my house.

You must buy a subscription to Cybertruck monthly to be eligible for Starlink. (Kidding?)

As long as you have a clear view of the sky and the starlink cell's ground gateway is not over-loaded, you'll get between 40-100 MBs down on average, up is always ~10 max, usually closer to 7

Had it in a cabin that was in the middle of nowhere with about 14 other people around New Year's. It was always kicking someone or something off between us every few minutes

Yes. It works. We have 4-5 of the mobile units for remote projects. (Alaska/Wyoming/Montana/etc.) Also, just came back from a fishing trip out of Sitka. The captain had it on his boat. Had service to at least 6 miles out into the Gulf of Alaska.

As long as you aren't invaded by Russia, you probably won't have any throttling issues.

I was at my friend's house out in the sticks last week. He has it and it worked great.

My sister has it on her RV and I used it when I stayed with her at our aunt’s up by Mt Baker. Really solid. Usually there’s no service for miles there and we had good connection even from a football field away. They also used Starlink this year to broadcast the Iditarod
