Spoke to a guy yesterday who asked me who I am voting for —he’s undecided! — and he wanted to listen to the case for Biden and sort of weigh it as though we were chatting about a few points of marginal income tax rates. I disassociated with rage.

Presidents will be restrained by the long settled norm of not deploying death squads that have sworn an oath of personal fealty to the president! And if they do violate that norm, why we can make our displeasure known at the ballot box!

Counterpoint: the president is probably not hard-pressed NOW to find someone to carry out the order, and in the future will have a roster of triggermen for this very purpose.

While it’s important (imo) to tell someone that their revulsion is expressing itself in racist or culturally insensitive ways, it’s another thing altogether to deploy that rhetoric in defense of white tourists searching out dog meat for kicks.

1. Merchan rules super quickly it’s an unofficial act. Boom. Sentences Trump. 2. Emergency application to the 1st Dep’t to stay the sentence pending appeal. Let’s say that’s DENIED! 3. Emergency interlocutors appeal to the NY Court of Appeals. Also DENIED! 4. Emergency application to SCOTUS!

I don’t disagree with this. BUT those wide open questions won’t be litigated to any kind of certainty in time for sentencing, which is the point.

Another way to look at it, which is bad, is that there is now a reasonably clear path to federal court and the attendant fuckery associated with yesterday’s developments.

Agree that if you eat meat there is nothing other than culture and tradition to distinguish between dogs and mammals eaten elsewhere in the world. I did have a lot of contempt for the tourists I met in various places, not of the culture, who sought it out.
