It helps, of course, that easily 1/4 or a 1/3 of the professionals I've met who work with DA have lived experience themselves. Survivors are, by our nature, resilient. We've learned how to stick together.

I've learned that people who work in the most 'dark'/'depressing' fields are often also the most positive people you'll ever meet. It makes sense -- if you know how to 'shut off' at the end of the day & maintain your sense of humour, you can stick around longer!
