"The Ontario government is downgrading COVID-19 from a novel coronavirus to a “disease of public health significance,” limiting the kind of data that needs to be reported to, and by, medical officers of health."
Because of course they are. 🙄

A most welcome update, targeting the variants that are currently circulating and picking up speed rather than one that is fading away.

Important: If you are in North Carolina, please keep wearing your mask!
The bill has not been signed into law yet. And while the language makes it easier for cops to abuse it, the bill does keep the right to mask to stop the spread of contagious disease.

"While SARS-CoV-2 is now a familiar threat, the virus isn't neatly seasonal. It still circulates year-round, humming in the background. And for the fifth year in a row, some scientists are bracing for the possibility of a small summer wave."

"More research is needed before anyone should take Paxlovid for that reason alone—but patients should take comfort in the fact that scientists are actively tackling these questions, recognizing the massive unmet need for therapies targeted toward Long COVID treatment and prevention."

"Another outstanding question: can taking Paxlovid during a case of COVID-19 help prevent Long COVID from ever developing? Some data suggest it may, but other studies have found that it doesn’t work as a preventive measure."

To be clear: this study was for those who were suffering from long covid already. It was researching the effects of Paxlovid as a treatment.
There was no word (from this study) on whether or not Paxlovid might help prevent long covid from even developing after an acute infection.

Study had 155 people who took Paxlovid for 15 days and they followed them for 15 weeks. I'd prefer a study that involved thousands of participants who were followed for months and years.

Paxlovid has long been a source of hope for those with Long COVID. It stops the virus from multiplying and reduces the amount of it in the body.
But the new study found that taking Paxlovid for 15 days was safe but did not improve key Long COVID symptoms better than a placebo.

Saskatchewan is not the only province where it is next to impossible to obtain Paxlovid. Our governments have to get their acts together and make sure Paxlovid is readily available in all pharmacies for timely use.

The most important thing to know is that there are certain physical things that the virus can’t escape, no matter how it mutates. As long as you have an N95 mask, that’s great protection.
Fresh air is king. Wherever you are, open the windows. Open the doors. Advocate for improved air quality stds.

We should continue to analyse and post our own data. Ontario could be a great leader in infectious disease surveillance.
But Public Health takes a back seat to privatising health care, paving over the Greenbelt and providing cheap booze at the corner store.
Cause, ya know, priorities.

Ontario should be a leader. Instead we must rely on the feds.
