I like Bluesky but something I'm realizing is there's a shortage of funny people. @kashana.bsky.social is doing too much labor. We need more funny people

For the record: voting matters. So does turning up to school board meetings. Community board meetings. Planning and zoning board meetings. Making public comments on pending rules. Contacting public officials. Protesting. Running for office yourself.

We live at the end of a dead end street, so we don't get much trick or treat traffic. But this could be a game changer.

If you follow me a little bit you know that I went to Grenada last December to learn how to sail. I have been texting with the boat captain who taught me how to sail (he's from Saint Vincent but works in Grenada they have a freedom of movement agreement) and he shared this gofundme

Donated. I worked on a project in St. Vincent and the Grenadines in 2014. It was a climate change and disaster risk reduction curriculum. Hope all those folks are OK.

If the president's official conduct is "not a crime," it would seem nearly impossible to get enough support for impeachment. The bar was always extraordinarily high. But it seems even less likely now.

Seems like this decision, from a practical perspective, takes impeachment off the table. Not that impeachment was effective before.

If the president has immunity from prosecution for official acts, that would seem, in a practical sense, to take impeachment off the table, too. Right?

“But that carbon tax is useless,” they counter; getting to the real objections, driven by solution aversion. Again, NO. This meta-analysis of 21 policies finds that "introducing a carbon price yields immediate + substantial emission reductions despite the low level of prices." We just need more!

Read a paper long ago saying Congress was often reluctant to make value judgments & so framed them as technical problems to be solved by experts. Not great but OK.
By diminishing the role of experts, overturning #Chevron may reframe these as value conflicts, hard to resolve.

I think Robert Frank's "Under the Influence" talks about the advantages of a hybrid like the Prius being distinct (a little weird looking) from an ICE model e.g. hybrid Accord. But I don't think this is it.

Withdrawing from the Paris Agreement would doom our chances of avoiding the worst outcomes of climate change and ships the clean jobs of the 21st century outside then United States. It would be policy, bad politics, and bad for America.

Not just Paris, Project 2025 calls for withdrawing from the UNFCCC altogether. "To that end, the next conservative Administration should withdraw the U.S. from the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement." (P. 709) Iirc, can withdraw from that in 1 year vs 4 for Paris.

There is a distinct sociopolitical region of the US that starts in Buffalo and Rochester and continues southeast, though Pennsylvania and the Chesapeake Bay, all the way to North Carolina. I call it the Holy Wegman Empire.

The Times and co never ask for Trump to step aside because they know Republicans are irredeemably hostile to decency and democracy - a basket of deplorables! - but are unwilling to say it. So Democrats look abnormally chaotic and Republican indecency and authoritarianism is literally normalized.

This argument is fascinating because I was told such closings were due to masses of Black folks stealing too much soap and toothbrushes and hair cream despite being locked behind the plexiglas. Turns out it’s soulless white billionaires fault…good to know.

One of the big unmentioned reasons for the closure is that these pharmacies, including Walgreens, have multi-billion opioid settlements against them. Walgreens is on the hook for $5.5 billion.
