I keep saying that swing voters are hard to target because there aren’t that many of them and an unsurprising number of armchair analyst men who’ve never worked in politics or even volunteered for a candidate they like are, like, no, dummy independent voters are a huge demo
It gets even more frustrating when they point out we’re in a highly polarized environment and yet insist that there are a large group of non-ideological voters making rational choices that we can convince with a thoughtful message
These people are unhinged
I think that people really do change their alignment over time...but not very much in response to information or persuation. It's a long term social process of shifting the vibes. Perhaps accelerated occasionally by major shocks (9/11, GFC, pandemic, etc).
And then I have to explain that independent voters are not de facto swing voters and most of them vote consistently in a very partisan fashion over several cycles; they just don’t like the party labels because they don’t like the party
Id be shocked if there’s even one person who is struggling with the choice between Biden and Trump. The choice is between one candidate or staying home. That’s my sense anyway. I’m very often wrong.
lol exactly. Especially when they bring up voter reg. It's like "dipshit, you know how many people like calling themselves an independent but they vote party line for eternity?"
