The biggest issue with Biden coverage is that he’s now The Story, which means that most of the press is focused on The Story and not any of the context or consequences. If we were having a serious discussion about qualifications for presidency, age, and the two main candidates, I’d be fine with it.

Nothing is stopping every single Democratic elected official and apparatchik from taking the airwaves every single day to articulately and decisively repeat a set of cogent talking points about Trump (ie 45). Nothing. Dem PACs could be slamming him with ads now. Stop whining and do that.

To the extent that it is true, I think it's because, on average, Boomers got progressively *richer* throughout their lives. Wealth is a far better predictor of political ideology than age is.

Same (though I just turned 44).
I'm beginning to think the conventional wisdom about people becoming more conservative as they age is limited to the baby Boomers / silent generation, if it's true at all.

Also, at the time Japan was known for manufacturing cheap, low quality, low value add products. Portraying the Japanese as being technically incompetent would have played into this stereotype. Ironic, given how much Japan would come to dominate advanced electronics in the following decades.

I don't want to minimize the peril of this moment, but I feel like the most apt analogy for how the press treats D and R politicians differently is that Ds are the hyper overachieving child who doesn't get recognized no matter how much they accomplish...

The discourse around biden needing more sleep is fully insane. Does no one remember "Executive Time," the thing Trump spent the majority(!) of his schedule on where he would just watch TV and tweet? Dude was categorically unable to fulfill any of the demands of the office and the press barely cared

Let me be clear. In my opinion, John Roberts has joined Roger Taney (Dred Scott - slavery) as a Chief Justice who will be remembered as an evil man. Not just wrong, but worthy of eternal condemnation for trying to destroy the Republic.

But now Chief Justice Roberts has (to his everlasting shame) enabled fascism by taking away the prospect for criminal prosecution.
I hope Roberts receives total consciousness on his deathbed and goes to his grave knowing that his entire legacy will be as a minion of evil.

To me, the most interesting set up is independent countries that used to be part of the British Empire (e.g. Canada and Australia) that continue to use the British Monarch as the Head of State via an appointed Governor General.

I've written for years about the Christian right's calls for "spiritual warfare" against demonic enemies of Christian America. They used to claim their struggle is against "powers and principalities" not "flesh and blood," citing Ephesians 6:12. But it was still dangerous. Now we see how.

Love the contradiction between saying both "I know nothing about Project 2025" and "I disagree with some of the things they are saying". The or press will just ignore the logical impossibility and reprint as "Trump disavows Project 2025".

ISTM there is an abundance of both logical arguments and empirical evidence that First Past the Post is the worst voting system imaginable. Unfortunately, it also seems to be the easiest for most people to understand despite its manifest flaws, so we're stuck with it.

"Conservative" has not been an accurate description of the American Right for a very long time. These people don't want to conserve anything. Any journalist who talks about the American Right in 2024 without using the terms "Reactionary" and/or "Radical" is doing their readers a disservice.
