They do label them almost exactly the same. I'm vegan, my partner isn't, and he's brought home the non-vegan Ben & Jerry's by mistake once or twice. I tried not to be like a cat mournfully watching him when he ate it.

This place actually has HEPA purifiers, it's just convincing them to stick them on full rather than auto. I practically cuddle the one in the waiting room. I have a mini one around my neck, too. Last time I had a rather puzzled optometrist suggest that perhaps it was why I had dry eye flaring.

I've got the optician in the morning, & I'll have to unmask briefly. He's given me the first appointment, I gave him an FFP3 last time, air purifiers on full etc. I can't put it off, next month is the Edinburgh Festival of the Arts & Airborne Disease, so it's not getting any better here for a while.

I am getting very fed up with seeing Dudes Writing At Length about how you're obligated to read things you don't enjoy, or where the author skeeves you out, and must Separate the Art from the Artist. One somehow managed to compare Holocaust denial to sports celebrities being overpaid.

It's meant to be the best of the activity trackers at period prediction. They absolutely need a rock solid privacy policy over that. I'm perimenopausal and it would be kinda nice if my Garmin could tell me when they're really due, but I'm glad it's not risking other people's abortion data.

I asked the geneticist who diagnosed me with EDS, and he said he wouldn't want to speculate, which was probably the right call, because the eugenicists would be all over it. But yep, it's a thing. Not everyone with EDS is obviously hypermobile, too. That's why I didn't know until my forties.

So many sympathies. I don't know you at all, but talking about transitioning and joint pain is making me wonder about EDS, which is really common in the queer and especially trans communities (also neurospicy). I've heard of pain specialists saying every single one of their trans patients has EDS.

Many sympathies to your mother. My mother kept telling me she, & half the family, were at death's door. When I cut off contact, she'd try to get messages through via other people. When I finally got told she was actually dying, I didn't know if it was true. It's such a horrible form of manipulation.

I get people telling me I should quilt professionally, and even if I were neither disabled nor sewing by hand, I think it'd suck all the joy out of it for me. I know someone who does it. His way in was an interior designer friend who sells his work on, and everything he makes to sell is beige. Nope.

When I am basting a quilt, Ninja likes to jump on top and menace me. Her reasoning is that if I'm going to stick sharp things into it (needles), she should stick sharp things into me (teeth, generally). It turns out that the way to stop this is to photograph her! She jumped down immediately.

Shipping pottery long distance via ocean was really common, so there are A LOT of shipwrecks with, like, the equivalent of corellware. The museum had an exhibit of some of the ~50k bowls they salvaged from that ship and it's FASCINATING how modern they look

I can think of accommodations which help mental illness a little, starting with reforming the welfare benefits system, and a lot of improvements to medical and social care. But I'll always be severely disabled no matter what you do. Mostly physical disabilities, also PTSD and neurodivergence.

Yeah, the social model feels more like it should be, "and this is how society disables us further", not, "only visible disabilities count and everything is fixed with a wheelchair ramp." I'm a wheelchair user & I'd still be severely disabled with maximum accommodations, they just take the edge off.
