It's 2023 and I just spent almost 30 minutes trying to figure out why my app wouldn't be able to receive data from my server, only to realize that yes, even in Bun/Node, prompt() is indeed blocking

Either way - thanks to everyone who has been following my work here for these past few years, I'm really happy to see that people get value out of the things I work on, and I can't wait to be back (4/4)

I'll be back to regularly scheduled commits after this short pause, but maybe in a slightly adjusted form - it might make sense to create guaranteed offline time slots, weekly pauses, or new exceptions for major holidays so I can spend more time with my friends & family. (3/4)

While this tradition has served me incredibly well and has allowed me to consistently work on my open-source projects, easily plan my release schedules and sketch out future work, I'll be undergoing surgery which will make it impossible for me to contribute for a few days. (2/4)

For the last 3+ years, I've done at least one non-work open-source commit per day. No matter if it was a holiday, during vacation, or on planes - one non-trivial commit every day before midnight. Today, after 10463 continuous commits, I'm putting a pause to this tradition π§΅

If an app is bad enough to be banned by the EU, that makes it a good candidate for the "never to be installed" category of apps

Alternatively, you can go read the thesis directly at pojntfx.github.io/networked-li... - it contains an in-depth review of existing live migration techniques, extensive benchmarking and technical details, and of course an open-source reference implementation in the from of #r3map!

Interested in live migrating VMs and their connections across the Atlantic with zero downtime? This is something I've been working on in a research paper I presented for @loopholelabs at #KubeCon two weeks ago, and the recording is now finally available! youtu.be/HrtX0JrjekE

I'm starting to change my mind towards working with Chinese companies from a European perspective. If the unfair 30% subsidies on everything under the IRA in the US won't be removed, I genuinely think the way forward might be to just say "fuck this" and do more CCP integration

Hmmm yeah, that is fair - it's a little bit more low-level I guess.

I really really like Golang's generics. Probably my favorite implementation of generics in any language overall, having worked with TypeScript, Java, Rust and Go.

There is so many places like this that are just shifted on Maps. It's a dying product, use OpenStreetMap if you can, it's vastly superior

Like with SkyTrain-style signaling or even ETCS it becomes possible to safely schedule trains every 30s with basically no additional cost to the transit operator. I feel like the benefits of that are vastly underestimated

When people discuss automation in transit they always forget that electric driverless trains/metros and even road vehicles have literally no monetary limit to frequency (since you don't need to pay a driver), only fleet count and wear & tear

Exactly the same on my end here. Looking forward to the eventual wecrashed-style Netflix documentary on the turmoil of the AI hype of the early 2020s
