Every time I log on I think the same thing. Oh this is nice, cool vibe, I actually get some sort of interactions with my nothing posts. The community is still thinner but…be the change you want to see, right?

Rookie #sewing moves - realizing I forgot to launder my fabric before cutting, now the pieces are a bit all over the place for size. It’s a bag, not a garment, so things don’t need to be ultra precise…but getting this together may still be an adventure lol

I hope this thread provides some encouragement for people who may be curious about dipping their toes in. There are obviously so many amazing makers out there, but they know what they're doing. I sure as hell didn't, and I think things worked out, haha. 9/9

On balance, I'm very happy with how I did. It's definitely a tail! And it's not just my tail, it's MY tail. I learned some things that I'll take into account as I continue to work, but for now, I'll tackle a non-furry project or two. 8/9

Capping was also a small adventure. I tried a ladder stitch, which was, on reflection, massively unnecessary; the pile hides the seam anyway, and a whip stitch would be easier to rip if I need to adjust the fill. Ah well, more lessons. 7/9

I ripped out the seams around the kink and cut away where the fabric mismatch was. The result was a less bushy tail tip. The irregular shape shown in this picture ended up being well hidden by the long pile. 6/9

And not really double checking things as I worked. I can think of a half-dozen places where I might have introduced that error. Things to keep in mind for future pieces. That being said, this was salvageable. 5/9

There was a *big* kink in the thing - the fabric was uneven at some point. Unfortunately, the mistake was big enough that even turned, the pile couldn't hide it. Also sadly, I'm not sure where I made the mistake. I was cavalier... 4/9

Sewing was surprisingly easy. The fabric was bulky, but as long as I kept the machine moving slowly, I had no problem maintaining (what I thought was) an even seam allowance. But there was a problem... 3/9

I used a pattern from Etsy, and cutting the fabric was easier than I was expecting. The cuts are not smooth, which may be a problem when I work on furred objects. I'll have to experiment with a razor rather than fabric scissors. 2/9
