Look sorry, it's true I am really anti sprawl but when Labour where the government there was a massive push from horticulture/farming to preserve the good arable growing soil/land for food production going into the future. Where are those voices now that Nats wanna do a fucking free for all? #NZPol

Councils can still zone land as rural. The stated intention is to remove a hard urban/rural regulatory line.

Will be watching how this develops very closely. We have to fight to protect productive land. Officials seem to be taking this seriously, too.

Thing is, to me, we should be ordering farmland, because once it's gone it can't be easily recovered. But that can require greater density and public transport, which won't wash with urban Nats

Those were some farmers near Lincoln, Canterbury wanting to protect some specific land which is some of the best soil in the country. I think they lost.
