I had no idea Robert Wyatt and Julian Glover are brothers. Well half brothers but still. Found out the oddest way - checking Barbara Pym and saw one of the big loves of her life was the estranged husband of the two's mother.

Wonder how we as a culture decided the baseline salad is green lettuce, carrots and maybe a few odds and ends? One of my obvious-in-retrospect revelations is I can make them however I want. Mainly onion, broccoli and pumpkins seeds? Great. Beets, goat cheese, bit of carrot, scallions? Great.

Reading about people who think there's an archangel guarding every nation and what's the deal for the one for the US? Did it just stand around for millennia until the US was created? Or did it formerly guard, say, Phoenicia? And if they're archangels why do they all seem so powerless?

One time, several months after I'd broken up with somebody, I was in a store and walked past a woman wearing my ex's perfume. That had an incredibly and unexpectedly visceral impact that I've never forgotten.

We had a potluck and one guy brought samosas and a ketchup bottle. I asked what's in the bottle. He gave me a weird look and said ketchup. Since he's Indian I couldn't question the combination but tried and it's not for me.

At the Szechuan place I ordered a scallion pancake appetizer I'd never had before. It turned out to be a puffed hollow ball just a bit smaller than a soccer ball. Not what I'd call a pancake. It didn't have much flavor but came with a good curry sauce.
