July 8, 1979: 45 years ago tonight, Twin Citians had their choice of Kansas at Met Center or Devo at the Guthrie. From that day’s Minneapolis Tribune, a grouping of ads for those shows and a bunch of others later that summer.

(6) Let’s hear that unintended “Satisfaction” riff story from Keith, from a 2020 piece in Guitar World in which he breaks down 10 of his riffs.

“It’s an obvious horn riff.”

(2) I noticed that the card cabinet bears the nameplate of The General Fireproofing Co. of Youngstown, Ohio. Last year I found one of my favorite trade catalog illustrations in one of theirs from 1916.

A glass from the 43rd Annual Convention of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture, Oct. 1-5, 1961, in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Seen here containing root beer for legibility.

I really want the 1:30 pm, first-of-four-bands opening set by Rush at the Minnesota State Fair’s Youth Expo ‘74 to share this limelight because I’ve seen at least one Facebook report that they performed before 8 people. But they can’t come close to that differential.
