Someone at London's Science Museum has a sense of humour - we loved this Fibonacci Sequence of bicycles in the atrium roof!

Feb. 12, 1869: “It will be a strange sight to see these two wheeled machines kiting around our city.” The Minneapolis Tribune reacts to what it reports as the city’s first bicycle.

Great article on Biniam Girmay's (first Black African) Tour de France stage win today. As a cycling historian, I can't help but think of so many talented Black cyclists to have come before, the challenges they faced, & what Girmay's victory at the Tour represents.

All that training on the way to the biggest race of the year should be complete. Le Tour kicks off this weekend.
So, be sure to "Turn on, tune in, drop out," or something like that...

A much more nuanced examination of racial barriers in cycling for Black athletes. Among them & in line with my research, success of Black cyclists was not received as a watershed. Instead, they faced even greater obstacles as a result of Taylor, et al. successes.

So I'm told that #BicycleDay has to do with an illegal substance rather than my transportation method of choice. Well I find it trippy that you could once leave a bicycle unlocked in downtown Ottawa without fear of theft! (Dept of Mines and Technical Surveys photo collection, LAC) #cdnhist

Breaking Away & American Flyers introduced cycling to the American mainstream in the 1980s every bit as much as the successes of LeMond, Hampsten, Phinney, et al.

What U.S. cyclist hasn't envisioned themself drafting a Cinzano semi? 😁

Absolutely fantastic to see this project come to fruition and proud of Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area's efforts to support it. Another prime example of the great partnerships throughout the Heritage Area working to share unique American agriculture stories!

Trial and error... much more error than success! I also made quick friends with nearby shops & their mechanics. Priceless lesson I learned early on was to always come with beer (good beer!), pastries, cookies, or other food. Treat your local shop crew well & they will always take care of you.

Fun new build-up outside my normal "color palette." The first non-black or non-blue bike in almost 20 years.

Now to find some "adventure" with it...

#BOTD Maurice Garin nicknamed 'the chimney sweep' after his former profession, won the first Tour de France in 1903. He won with a margin of 2 hours and 49 minutes, which remains the largest in the history of the race.
