FWIW, I've, anecdotally, encountered a bunch of people who legitimately do not remember important details of life specific to the initial COVID years (2020-2022). I suspect the virus actually plays a role in this. Of course, that's probably not the main cause in this context.

The other side of this too is that Trump has made it abundantly clear that he has to intention of governing during a second term - it will simply be a vengeance tour and an authoritarian overthrow of our pseudo Democracy. He will not allow another legitimate election to take place in this country.
