When there are no legal means to check the power of an out-of-control executive, only illegal means remain.

The Court ruling today is terrible but expected. I will just gently remind everyone that the election hasn’t happened yet. We shouldn’t assume the worst outcome as a foregone conclusion. That only encourages more apathy than many are already feeling.

Paralysis and overwhelm don't disrupt dangerous systems. That's one reason I believe even little actions that disrupt domination patterns and support life-sustaining patterns are important. Not because of their size but because of their direction.

This is the ball game folks, the authoritarian green light laid out in advance. Congress will not impeach Trump. And SCOTUS now blesses him with extraordinary latitude to do whatever he wants in power. A second administration will not be constrained by Congress, the courts, the bureaucracy or law.

In a weird way, SCOTUS did the Biden campaign a big favor, because everyone knows the stakes now and no one should give a flying fuck about whether Biden spaces out every now and then. The alternative has become unimaginably bad.

a thing to remember, in all of this horror, is that these are not the actions of a political party that is confident it represents the will of the people, and who is currently out of power and enslaved to a deeply flawed avatar. the struggle is not over and they have not won

I really have lost my former tolerance for "we're doomed/fucked/it's all over/they've won" takes at this point, in that they're the most dangerous attitudes one could possibly have when confronted with a truly existential political threat (which we still DO have levers to address).

saying this is NOT the same thing as saying that the situation is no big deal and everything will be fine - but the truth is, when things look really bad, ceding defeat before you've actually been *defeated* is a completely useless strategy.

TBH, I think it’s incredibly easy to run against the “MAGA Supreme Court” and “Trump Supreme Court,” today’s decision (and the bribery decision) are 100% amenable to soundbites, and that they roll nicely into the “Trump is going to prosecute anyone he doesn’t like” line that already bothers voters.

He sent a mob to kill his own vice president. Of course he’d kill a camp full of immigrants. A protest full of trans activists. A Pride parade. A BLM demonstration. Remember, Pence so distrusted the Secret Service agents in the Capitol on Jan 6 that he refused to get in the car with them to evac.

The presidential immunity case this morning should be galvanizing and should shut all of the "replace Biden" people the fuck up. We *have* to stop Trump, especially a Trump who will have been let entirely off the leash by this decision, and he's the vehicle we have. Don't like it? Don't care.

I'm glad more people are saying this. My main takeaway from the debate is that Biden really needs a different strategy; one that leans into his strength off the cuff and when he's a little emotional. A rote list of talking points isn't the answer to a firehose of Trump lies.
