I think people are mostly sublimating their anger at the Times "news" articles that look stupid.

I preferred Bernie to Biden in 2020 but have completely flipped on this, because personnel is policy, and Sanders had an amazing number of later-awful people around him.

Given that a)swing states change over time and b)the popular vote will affect perceptions of legal machinations in a close electoral vote, I find arguments about voting based on where one lives unpersuasive.

The history of, e.g., crowdsourced crime-solving on Reddit is irrefutable evidence that this is wrong.

Pretty sure that's overthinking this and it's just the cohort whose politically formative years were Carter/Reagan (to include the myth-making aspects about Reagan and "morning in America").

Isn't that the Reddit that's run by cops and deletes all questions that imply the existence of or ask how to deal with police misconduct?

I think one would be correct to believe this 20 years ago and wrong now. (An inevitable process, I suspect.)

I would like to be optimistic about this, but the failure of the bill to ban congresspeople from owning individual stocks doesn't bode well for elected representatives' sense of shame.

"Best cuisine" being any time in the past is in a league of its own for insanity. Although if all the fish die out from overfishing/climate change I guess it might happen eventually.

Can make an exception for Tom Friedman if one assumes that he's actually a pair of twins that pulls a Prestige every couple of decades.

To be clear, I hadn't seen the context of this thread in that response and claims that 10/7 was a false flag are both stupid and antisemitic.

Nobody knows that a successful false flag operation was a false flag. Only the failures get considered.

Yeah, this one just doesn't seem that interesting for anyone older than ~35, because a lot of people's grandfathers/great uncles served, and (if they lived), their grandchildren probably held their hand at some point.

Odd that the 1947 map doesn't have any of the Northeast as "tonic" because my older teachers in school in MA in the 1980s were still calling it that.

Most levers are state/local, but e.g. the stupid restrictions we have on modular homes are Federal, and also both our tariff and immigration policies are hurting construction. But yes, NIMBY zoning regulations are the main problem.

Houses are unaffordable because we haven't built enough of them. Giving people money to buy houses without building more houses just drives up the cost of housing and eats the money.

I don't think one should confuse how US intelligence agencies feel about Israeli intelligence agencies with how the countries as a whole feel about each other.

There is a Type of Guy* that wrongly thinks loudness is correlated with righteousness. I recommend blocking them across the board. Even the ones who happen to be correct about something only manage that by accident.

You have a more sympathetic take than I do. This struck me as analogous to the people trying to redefine "racism" as "prejudice v. power". The word "indigenous" already had a common meaning and this is an attempt to substitute a different one specifically to exclude Jews from falling within it.

I recall reading somewhere that when the revisionist Lost Cause histories started coming out, some of the war generation was still alive, and the ex-Confederates were angry because they were proud of "for slavery" being the reason they fought and didn't like it being papered over.
