Having worked for a restoration company, I tell people this all the time. The other thing I tell people is to get as much contents insurance as possible. If you have a fire or flood, you will run through those funds quickly.

I learned this in grad school when a friend's house burned down and it turns out replacing all your clothes in a month is really, really expensive.
