Idk why I’ve come around on tactical optimism lately, I guess I’ve been thinking of what Rudolf Abel says in Bridge of Spies:
“You don’t seem alarmed.”
“Would it help?”
Interesting because I don't see that as any kind of optimism at all. There's a time for sounding alarms, and yes, we are rapidly passing it by... but is that good?!
Years ago I was hospitalized for a serious emergency. I was int the right place, on medication, things were big and scary but was getting the treatment I needed. When the attending came to my room on rounds she apparently didn't like my breezy tone and scolded me that this was really serious, and /
