They need to readjust the levels to have more unexplained Bersatto-Faks family lore and less exposition of how every character got to where they were. In previous seasons, no one would have explained what The Computer was till he showed up. In this one someone said oh it's a guy and fucked it up.

Overall it was a much moodier season, bracketed as it was by the death of Marcus' mother at the end of S2 and the funeral for Ever. Hard to know how long they can keep it going. At a certain point, the restaurant succeeds and it's the same shit day in day our, or it fails.

The second half which featured much less dialogue of people partying in a small apartment was much better. It also commented ironically on the first half of the episode. Is all this shit about fancy food bullshit if it's really about the people? I'd say so.

The final episode was a microcosm of the good and bad of the season. The first half with all the chefs sitting around talking about what cooking meant to them was total dogshit. Some of the worst pretentious bullshit you can watch.

There was an awful lot of scenes, sometimes whole episodes, that felt like two actor staring directly into the camera making long speeches, which was... Not very good.

As always, Ebon Moss-Bachrach is great, except they rewrote the character to talk like an amateur psychologist which I think was supposed to be a joke but seems very incongruent with who this guy is supposed to be. Ayo Edibiri played a frustratingly dithering role very well.

Sometimes this worked (Jamie Lee Curtis during the labour episode!), other times it fell like a showy experiment that didn't come off (S3E1 was an elaborate "Last time, on The Bear").

The Bear season 3... What to say? If the first two seasons were tightly plotted and heavy on witty banter and the nuts and bolts of how a restaurant works (or doesn't) the third season leaned into showcasing actors acting so fucking hard and exposition.
