I am not kidding. Social Security depends on young workers. Immigration is what keeps it going. These young recent immigrants are not drawing from Social Security right now! Once they start working, they pay INTO it! Why can't anyone SAY that?

When undocumented workers work a W2 job they use a fake SSN. This means they pay into the system, but can't get Social Security or Medicare out of it. They literally fund the system they don't get any benefit from.

I think because people like to think that a) money they are drawing now is "theirs" because they paid into the system and b) money they are paying now will be available to them in the future to draw on. Reminding folks that's not how it works isn't necessarily popular
