Overnight drove some friends to a festival once. They had not done this. I did not appreciate having to do surgery to their borrowed tent to make it livable. At 5am. Without a full set of poles. Plus they were camping clueless. My tent - pre-checked - was up in 10mins. *Sigh*

I worked with MSMail in the 90s, Lotus Domino in the 00s. MSMail: Crap server, fell over a bunch, kept running out of space, modem, no-one cared enough to upgrade. Domino: By end the cluster was unable to be backed up properly, constant firefighting, mission critical, relief when kicked to Google.

It was fun but a massive pain. As capacity grew and reliance on IT increased, the infrastructure needed to support this just got too much for most orgs. 90s & 00s you could cowboy a lot of shit pretty convincingly. By mid 10s it was just not sustainable. Offing email alone saved the sanity of many.

(Not necessarily as a negative, btw. On prem hosting of email was always a massive ballache that just got harder to manage as file sizes grew, for example. But you need to remember that your data is *somewhere else* and you have less control in certain areas.)

He's overpromised for his entire career. The stock price is where it is because people either believe, or pretend to believe, the lies. Cybertruck won't be mass market. It's illegal to have on the road in Europe, for instance. More interestingly is the lack of a roadster - and lack of pushback.
