I read some years ago, but got the Discworld series again via Humble Bundle.
This piece sticks with me:
"if a man has you entirely at his mercy, then hope like hell that man is an evil man...they want to see you in fear...So they’ll talk. They’ll gloat...A good man will kill you with hardly a word."

It is remarkable to me that when they ever deign to name a specific complaint that requires them to overthrow American society (ie, a “revolution”) it’s always something like faculty senates or website DEI statements or calorie counts on menus.

Precedent is kinda dead though, right? They're saying Trump is immune, and probably any future right-wing politician, but I think we all expect they'll just reverse themselves if a Democractic administration is ever challenged.

It's not really conservative either, as that implies some sort of principle. It's just a country of grievance and bullying.

Oh yes, I heard about Ohtani because my father-in-law's fantasy baseball league wasn't sure how to score him, then because of his deferred contract, then because of his translator.
Also, I know Sean Doolittle, but I don't know if he still plays.

Funny how in our perfectly balanced market economy, we'd all be better off if Ross Douthat kept his salary but stopped sharing any of his opinions.

It sure would be comical if Samuel Alito had recently published an opinion in which he expressed strong feelings about flags and wrote that passersby viewing a flag flying over a building would naturally assume the flag conveys some message on the owner's behalf

FWIW, my partner Connie read that as "homework" while she was designing the board game "Apiary" (about sentient space-faring bees). I haven't read it myself, but a lot of people have cited it positively.

Connie started getting those results before I did, and can't stand them. If you find the "off" button, let us know! What angers (but doesn't surprise) me is how half-baked (and potentially dangerous) the results are, yet they hit "go" anyway.

Does anyone know if AEG and Ryan Dancey, the COO, have made good on their pledges from about a year a go when Ryan said the following after his posts about women designers? I've contacted AEG PR but heard nothing yet.

That's also the basis of a type of scam/con. Send people predictions (e.g. football game winners), and by math, 1/32 will get 5 in a row. Those people might think you can predict football games, because they don't know about the other 31 people you gave wrong predictions to.

(Actually, I like several board game apps, like Wingspan and Through the Ages, and Legends of Runeterra, but that requires "extra" Wi-Fi as it fails to load when the signal is mediocre)

If it passes, California would be the first state to implement this "right to disconnect" law, applicable to both private and public employers

I saw a theory, that there's a subset of people (or maybe a piece of everyone's psyche) that wants a Christ figure. But in this case, Jesus is fat, lazy, spiteful, stupid, etc. He doesn't inspire you to be better - he lowers the bar to the floor so you have permission for extreme complacency.

Domestic violence, on the other hand, is extremely American.
