I read some years ago, but got the Discworld series again via Humble Bundle. This piece sticks with me: "if a man has you entirely at his mercy, then hope like hell that man is an evil man...they want to see you in fear...So they’ll talk. It is remarkable to me that when they ever deign to name a specific complaint that requires them to overthrow American society (ie, a “revolution”) it’s always something like faculty senates or website DEI statements or calorie counts on menus.

Precedent is kinda dead though, right? They're saying Trump is immune, and probably any future right-wing politician, but I think we all expect they'll just reverse themselves if a Democractic administration is ever challenged.

FWIW, my partner Connie read that as "homework" while she was designing the board game "Apiary" (about sentient space-faring bees). I haven't read it myself, but a lot of people have cited it positively.

Connie started getting those results before I did, and can't stand them. If you find the "off" button, let us know! What angers (but doesn't surprise) me is how half-baked (and potentially dangerous) the results are, yet they hit "go" anyway.

That's also the basis of a type of scam/con. Send people predictions (e.g. football game winners), and by math, 1/32 will get 5 in a row. Those people might think you can predict football games, because they don't know about the other 31 people you gave wrong predictions to.

I saw a theory, that there's a subset of people (or maybe a piece of everyone's psyche) that wants a Christ figure. But in this case, Jesus is fat, lazy, spiteful, stupid, etc. He doesn't inspire you to be better - he lowers the bar to the floor so you have permission for extreme complacency.

@hexstardragon.bsky.social and I got to go to a PWHL game during their inaugural season. Seeing the women out there, on the same ice where the men play, playing really good hockey in front of thousands of enthusiastic fans (including a ton of girls) was an absolutely wonderful experience 🥹
