Well, obviously you want good buns. The best part of the sandwich needs to be the whole sandwich.

It's short for Leelagaleenileelinoleela, which is a traditional ten-syllable frellenti name.

Ethan illustrated several pages of comics for me! The book that's in will be out as soon as I finish all the other stuff.

Deconstructed burgers are delicious! A bed of chopped iceberg lettuce with fresh onion, tomato, and cold-pickled dill slices, with ketchup, mustard, and mayo as dressings. And then little, bite-sized bits of still-sizzling burger, fresh from the skillet.

This deserves a proper essay, I suppose. It happened in the late 90's, on the UVSC lawn across from the BYU dorm parking, about a quarter mile from Lavell Edwards Stadium, where they held the "Stadium of Fire." In the thirty years I've been here, I've never been INTO the stadium for that. No need.

And then? Well, then all the happy Utah picnickers who didn't grow up in Florida with *real* thunderstorms began screaming and running because oh no there's rain. I stood amid the chaos and breathed deeply. I was the calm amid a multi-sensory storm, and OH MY GOODNESS happy Independence Day to me.

That noise? It was thunder. The storm had been building to the southwest, and was now rolling straight toward us, sucking the ground-level air into itself. The firework finale was punctuated by thunder AND LIGHTNING, and when the show finished the rain started to fall.

I searched and couldn't find it. SHORT VERSION: We were watching a big show from the field near the stadium. The wind was carrying the launcher smoke toward us, so the overhead explosions were accompanied by the smell of cannon-fire. Behind us there was noise I couldn't make sense of at first...

Hamburger patty recipe trick! You will need a pair of matching plates, like Corelle dinner plates, and a couple of sheets of wax paper. 1) Roll the beef into a ball 2) Press it into a disc on the wax paper on one plate. 3) Put another sheet atop, then press it flat with the other plate.

That's kind of where I am, because as I eat I always end up pushing the burger toward the unbitten arc of the sandwich. The final bites always have a bit of everything.

UPDATE: I had burgers with the family during daylight hours, and then I stayed inside and listened to the neighbors set off various explosions. I don't feel like I missed out. I've had some *AMAZING* fireworks experiences over the years, I don't need to try to top them. Their memory carries.

Hamburger question: What's your preference for the size of the patty w/re the size of the bun? A) Patty is smaller, for the "tidy sandwich" B) Equal size, for the "layer-cake" effect C) Patty is bigger, for that "luxury carnivore" look

It depends on how far back you roll the clock. Once we turned wolves into dogs, well, I think the rest of the apex predators decided that it would be best for their own evolutionary lines if they stayed clear of the hairless, spear-throwing, fire-breathing monkeys.

In the film, the woman on display as bait, Valkyrie, is later run over by The People Eater. Sad, because she was a favorite character. Question, in the vein of "taking this meme waaaay too far": Can we get the People Eater to run over the NYT?

Anyway, BEVERLY HILLS COP: AXEL F is a supremely worthy capstone for the franchise. The only thing "missing" is a strip club scene, and the movie is much stronger with the character humor it used instead.

The third movie had a twist right at the end. We know one of the cops or feds is corrupt but we don't know who. The reveal was incredibly ham-fisted. Within two seconds of telling us he "saw another name in those files," Axel kills the corrupt guy. TBH, it felt kind of gross.

And the story? It's a proper "Beverly Hills Cop" story. We (and the protagonists) figure out who the villain is very early on, and there are no twists. The try-fail cycle is collecting evidence and surviving to present it.

It doesn't feel like a nostalgia grab. Yes, the fan service is there, but it's not just fan service. It supports the story. Okay, Bronson Pinchot's bit (Serge) was a stretch, story-wise, but it was so delightful I'll let it slide.

Sandra finally watched BEVERLY HILLS COP for the first time, and liked it. Then we watched BEVERLY HILLS COP: AXEL F, and she agrees with my assessment. THIS is how you do a nostalgia-grab correctly. It hits all the beats of the original, and doesn't make the mistakes of the sequels.

We had a freezer failure once. It happened while we were on vacation. When we got home it had blown itself open because the pressure of the expanding decomposition gases popped the seal. The whole house stank. We were upset at the loss of food, but had much larger problems to be upset about.

There's a line in Season 2 where one of the characters says "They like what I'm saying. They just don't like the word 'Nazi.'" It's *SO GOOD.* Splutchy and graphic and gross, but SO GOOD.

NOTE: This is not a blanket endorsement of THE BOYS. It's violent, crass, and sometimes just over-the-top gross. It's difficult to watch. I have no complaints with the storytelling, though.

If people are angry because their fascist political leanings are not being supported by pop culture narratives, I for one am going to enjoy their salty disappointment, and hope for a world in which they don't get to consume any art at all without feeling attacked. Because fascism deserves attack.

In the case of THE BOYS, I'm leaning into "brilliant." Yes, it is politically charged, and it delivers some very on-the-nose caricatures of alt-right and fascist talking points. The fact that alt-right dudebros are review-bombing it says to me that it is working PERFECTLY.

I've seen a couple of articles talking about Season 4 of THE BOYS in which the writer says that obviously it's slipping because it's getting review-bombed. NEWSFLASH (and also PRO TIP): If your art or writing is getting review-bombed, it's entirely possible that it is BRILLIANT, not "slipping."

I can't open bottles if I "pinch-grip" it between my thumb and my index finger. I have to "discus-grip" it, all five digits going to town, in order to make it work. YMMV. (Maybe I should market it as a strength test, and sell more deeply into the "insecure dudebro" demographic.)
