For sure. I'd rather live in a world with the internet archive, than without it. No question. But it's not entirely clear that everything after 1999 is there. Everything that was accessible at a time when somebody volunteered to send wayback to crawl the page is, yes.

Well they should show up, sort of. Everything that was available at the time these crawls should be available. Anything the admins put up but subsequently decided to take down in between crawls (for example, most of 1997 and 1998, or the summer of 2008) may be missing. incidental, not systematic

Wayback (as of now) is a very cool thing, but regrettably, not a serious solution to this problem because page archive selections are incidental and not recursive. We need a systematic plan for archiving our history on the Internet, because we clearly can't rely on the private sector for it.

Yeah I've already read it, and also read the back-and-forth on Bosnia. I had HS teachers who walked them through the monstrosities of the regime, which led me to learn about the context of US bombings. A lot of people didn't. Maybe internalizing these horrors takes time & we shouldn't force it
