People will continue to harp on Merrick Garland (which fair, he has sucked) but this ruling has me pretty certain that no matter how quickly he worked we were never going to see a federal case against Trump go to trial
Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I feel like the monkeys paw of the federal trials moving more aggressively is that we got a verdict out of them already but then SCOTUS at least partially overturns it on todays “official vs unofficial acts” grounds & like, that seems like itd be worse?
there was a chance of an actual trial, that then got appealed. Now, because Garland was so busy showing he wasn't bitter about not getting SCOTUS, we got this mess. Trump should have been indicted summer of 2021.
If anything all the pains he insisted be taken to make the case air-tight probably have meant there is still a real chance we get justice if Trump loses.
