The most I ever related to a character on screen was that DS9 when the crew was possessed by the psychic imprint of a culture bent on backstabbing intrigue and all Sisko wanted to do was be left alone to quietly build a clock.

They initially considered having clock building be Sisko's pastime throughout the series. They had a change of heart because it is not a social activity where you naturally have conversations with other people. So they changed it to cooking.
