I actually remember very clearly my first experience with libertarianism in high school when a local party rep came to one of our classes to tell about what they stood for. They sounded like dipshits to me at 17 and I said so (not in so many words) at the time.

Yeah. Porn is just one lever. Everything some lever so they could, at any time, take an agitator and be certain they're breaking some law (or certain you could fabricate evidence they are). 100% about control. These people like porn too, but they're in the party, they won't get hit.

It only is a drawback if you intend to represent. They intend to rule. It's handy to have a lever on any population you want to rule, so the more levers you invent in law the better. They've already cultivated a population that doesn't pay attention to policy until they're hit by it.

Also means they have more people to reach out to for help if the abusive relationships are with people with cultural or legal authority over them. Kids can't save other kids from abusive parents, but family friends and other family members can.

If for no other reason than they keep me aware of myself as a younger human, it is so valuable. But even outside of that, more friends is good, actually, for everyone. Support networks are net positive up and down the ladder.

Because I've worked in and around convention scenes and now in and around university level academia, I keep gaining new friends who are younger than myself, and I like to think I enrich their lives, but hey, they also enrich mine!

A thing I like about Sesame Street is that adults are positively and proactively involved in the lives even of kids they're not related to. This is cool and should be normal--being good to kids and helping them grow up should be a whole society's responsibility.

I feel too, like it's rare now to even see the sort of older adult being active with younger adults as a positive thing, even though it's the core of good mentorship. I've been blessed as an artist to have a lot of positive experiences and direction come from my artist elders.

Yeah, there is a notion that if you aren't constantly watching the horror, you aren't aware or don't care. But setting yourself on fire is a terribly ineffective way to keep others warm. Nobody can help if they aren't themselves in a position of health and frame of mind to do so.

I hope folks remember, stuff can change for the better *remarkably* fast. In Obama's first term, he couldn't come out in open support of gay marriage while campaigning (even though we knew he did). By the time he left office, even Trump had to pretend he wanted to keep it around. 8 years.

In the span of 3 years and a couple of promotions I've now gotten to the point of making significantly more than I and my Life Colleague made *together* at our last jobs. It's very hard to process that very good situation in relation to *waves at the world*.
