It's amazing that in the same breath, they argue for power to "the states and to a vote of the people" and that it's a 14th amendment issue.

The reason why it's so important to have someone capable of beating Trump is THE story. It can't just be taken as a given.

Years before this ruling, that was the defense trotted out by the Calm Down types: they didn’t do it! Too many people said no, I won’t commit crimes for you, Trump. They fail to realize there were multiple who were willing! If he’s reelected how many Jeff Clark’s do you wanna risk him appointing

Trump could auction off foreign policy live at the State of the Union, since both that speech and handling foreign policy are core presidential duties.

No need to even try to funnel it through Trump's hotels, he can just accept checks directly. He could even announce at the State of the Union (an official act) that he's putting up foreign policy for auction. 3/3

I think an example that might be easier for them to understand is taking bribes from a foreign government. Working with foreign governments is a core constitutional power, and now subject to immunity. Congress has shown that impeachment is dead letter, and now prosecution is off the table. 2/3

There's been a lot of talk about how the President can know order an assassination on a political rival, or anybody for that matter, with no legal consequence. And I think people have a hard time wrapping their head around something so seemingly extreme. 1/3

It really feels like these cases are just vehicles to get SCOTUS to throw out the whole church/state thing. And given the rulings they've issued in the past week, it seems primed to work.

It wouldn't make it legal, it just means Biden couldn't be criminally prosecuted for it. The courts could still overrule an official act as unconstitutional.

Trump may be innocent in a court of law until proven guilty, but that doesn't mean voters shouldn't draw their own conclusions based on what's publicly known know.

I think the thinking is that without J6 being litigated in a criminal court, it gives Trump cover. But I've always thought it was strange to think that a significant number of votes hinge on a jury verdict in that case. You don't need a trial to put the committee hearings on repeat until November.

With the pressure to drop out, Biden could do whatever he wants and just resign, without having to even worry about 34 senators.

Ironically, the Seal Team 6 solution is okie-dokier than canceling the election. Since it's just about criminal prosecution, SCOTUS could overrule a decision to cancel the election. But if Biden placed the order to Seal Team 6 then resigned before an impeachment could even be held, he'd be all clear

A few years ago, Jon Lovett floated a theory that media treats Democrats like protagonists - to be challenged, accounted, and forced to be behave in growth-oriented ways - while the GOP are treated like antagonists - immutable, expected to disrupt, thematic obstacles. Thinking about that a lot.

Even when it's obvious enough to the target audience, too many people who aren't in on the joke will either take it and run with it, or have the narrative that's being mocked subtly reinforced.

My guess is that he doesn't think those should count, because if you don't have a valid license then you shouldn't be driving anyway and speed cameras didn't stop you. Which is a stupid argument, because if you're driving without a license, you really don't want to get caught on camera.

I received this unsolicited piece of propaganda in the mail today. Apparently, Remnant Publications feels that mass mailing Biblical fan fic to millions of people who have no interest in reading it is a better use of donations than, say, feeding the hungry or clothing the naked.

It would have really driven home the point if they had quoted her on that. My guess is there's a sense of of denial about Trump's direct role in stirring up these conspiracy theorists, so she'll still support him. But hearing that directly from her would have been worth so much more than speculating
