We weren’t so technically sophisticated. We just called 1-800-USA-SEGA on the school pay phones and left them off the hook to run up the bill.

*Sega of America's old corporate toll-free was 800-804-6666 I used to hit up the diagnostics module(s) extension; after giving health status of the PBX it would monitor audio activity in the server closet / room for ~10s some days you could hear dudes working on stuff

if the school pay phone was a COCOT (probably!) then 1) school got hit with the bill lol and 2) if you could get the 800 number to hang up you'd get a dialtone and if you had a dialer from radio shack you could call any line
