Just a few fireflies at Elkmont Campground in Smoky Mountains National Park. These are almost all male synchronous fireflies and they synchronize by going dark at once to check for responses from potential mates. 🐙🌿🧪📷 (Photinus carolinus)

Love Elkmont campground. These are 1 of 16 different species of fiireflies in GSMNP. But sshhh! We have entered the firefly lottery a couple of times but no luck yet. Lottery for Vehicle Reservations usu opens end of April for a couple of days.

I heard of them for years and years, but never saw them in real life, until i stayed in North Carolina for a while, amazing :-) Been to the Smoky Mountains too, wonderful area :-)
