I used to have so many houseless students when I taught community college. They couch-surfed and slept in cars. It's terrible. (Although when I expressed sympathy to one student, he said that he had slept in so many worse places than a car.)

I say this and mean it. Project 2025 isn’t inventing fascism for the USA. But I seize any chance to bring people aboard to envision something else.

Bolo tie man is a true nightmare. I like how “oh yeah he’s racist and homophobic” is just a throw-away.

Speaking for myself, I do think Trump is a threat and am worried Biden will lose what should be a slam dunk. I hope I’m wrong.

This is the kind of breakdown of Project 2025 we need more of—@jesspish.bsky.social is the leading expert on sheriffs and their myths, and was able to put a lot of history and context to work despite what little detail "Mandate" offered on sheriffs.

Central Valley -- sheriffs there have actually refrained (quietly) from engaging in mass deportations because of the influence of ag industry.

So, that was what my husband thought. I thought it was because they only want the rhythm method (which they say in not the rhythm method). Turns out the refusal to acknowledge trans people makes language more confusing, not less.

There's even a weird provision outlawing providing condoms to women (tm) because condoms are for male sex organs?

This is correct (from @melissagiragrant.com ). There's a bunch of stuff about "helping the poor poor divorced fathers" and outlawing the word "caregiver" and punishing single moms (as well as people living with a partner, another abolished word). WOMEN (a monolith) are to be at home baking bread.

These mottos on cop cars are there to counter impressions that people currently have. If they want to remind you that they're fighting crime, it's because people can't draw that inference from their behavior. The ones in my city say "we are here to help"

I have some aggravation with these well-meaning articles. The victims of lynchings, cops, and the defunct social safety net would like a word. "America is on the cusp of becoming a very dark place." On the cusp? It will get worse, yes, but come on.

Here's exactly why this matters: the GOP knows that the country is quickly becoming more diverse. Democracy -- allowing more people to vote -- means that they are out of office. Being anti-democracy is a fancy way of saying you would like the return of John C. Calhoun.

Raskin's office does take it seriously although I appreciate it's hard to cut through the noise. I have offered basic ideas -- like not giving federal money to sheriffs who were Oath Keepers as a start.
