The financial cost is not an issue now. The ships have already been built and paid for. The question is if russia will ever again be able to afford to rebuild its military when this war is over, and that's a good thing.

Obviously because retiring as a sitting MP is better than being ignominiously beaten and turfed out of Parliament. There will be many more Tory 'retirees'.

I don't think this is news to the French. This is acting tough for the russian audience.

Because this is a poke in the eye for Sunak. This hurts him much more than if she joined Farages lot. And if somebody like her can defect, he knows he can depend on nobody. Is he better to call the election now or limp on suffering humiliation after humiliation until the bitter end.

I don't think the Tories were convinced that they had won. It was just an attempt to soften the inevitably bad media coverage. Sad that some 'top' journalists, who should have known better, fell for it.

Of course they were aware. They warned openly about it two weeks ago. Plans were probably postponed because of the warning. Putin/FSB makes most sense. A repeat of the apartment bombings atrocities.

They knew because they have sources. Most likely it's FSB on Putin's orders, to give him an excuse to expand mobilization and repression. He has form for this; the apartment bombings were down to him. They only stopped when local police caught FSB guys in the act of planting another bomb.

Its not actually worth that, as DJT will discover if he tries to sell the shares or borrow against them. Truth was running out of cash to continue in business and this transaction amounted to a $300 million lifebelt. It's still a failing network and without Trump it's dead.

“It’s a little bit of an unfortunate situation there, but from Israel’s perspective I would do my best to move the people out and then clean it up,” Kushner said. Congratulations, everyone, we have now officially reached the Gaza Trump Tower stage of "ethnic cleaning."

"there’s no strict constitutional requirement for the prime minister to sit in either House" There's no strict constitutional requirements for anything in the UK (except that the King must do as he's told).

Well the European Convention on Human Rights is currently the closest thing that the UK has to a Constitution (Higher Law, specifying rights) and the Tories want to abolish it.....

It might have worked once but far too late now. The nutters, with the support of the newspaper barons, would all join Farage and stand against the Torys who would be wiped out. Also, there isn't a dream team left to make a Cabinet. Johnson got rid of most that could have been there.

No, There is nothing stopping the UK having a proper legal Constitution if it wanted to. Must be a higher body of law, must set out the powers and duties of the Head of State, role of Parliament, electoral system, rights of citizens (or subjects) and how it gets amended.

There is nothing because the UK doesn't have a Constitiution, by any normal understanding of the term.

Lots of corruption in Malta, Hungary is Orban and Luxembourg is a big financial centre so probably has some practical issues to solve. They will get resolved.

The ECHR (the Court) did that because torture is specifically outlawed in the ECHR (the Convention). In fact, the Convention is the closest thing that the UK has to a proper Constitution. Which is why many in the far right in the UK want to withdraw the UK from the ECHR.

Haha if you read the article, not the headline, she liked Biden and all he said, she just wanted more detail. There is absolutely no sign that she might go for Trump.

Erdogan playing both sides. Russia is not ready for talks yet. Talks now will just freeze the war, allowing them to rearm and continue. In fairness to Erdogan though, he has always said that Crimea is Ukraine and he does have his ambition to replace russia as regional power, hence acting as broker.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis sent a message to the Kremlin after he witnessed a Russian missile attack on Odesa the day before.

"We must have only one message to the Kremlin: You will not intimidate us, we will continue to support Ukraine."

Today is Women's Day in russia, a holiday, so lots of people out and about. Another Putin atrocity would be useful for the Kremlin as an excuse to increase mobilization for the war, but doubtful they would go ahead if their plans are public.

If they are scraping the bottom of the barrel for the last $200m, its looking bad. It's a lesson to the rest of the world that the US cannot be relied on any more. And it should be a lesson to the US that their political system is broken.

Johnson doesn't respect the views of any Parliament since he refuses to allow his own to do what the majority there want to do . It begins to look like he only respects the views of the US proto-dictator and that other dictator in position, Vladimir Putin.
