Wellington council building consent fees to install wall insulation in one wall would be about $1400. It’ll cost less to do the work 😵💫 I know *why* it’s consentable, but it’s a massive disincentive. Have any councils made it a minor works consent with a streamlined process?

Massey’s statement to staff reads: We have been advised that the QE component of our PBRF allocation will continue to be calculated based on the 2018 results, with all other current conditions unchanged. Institutions’ 2024 indicative funding remains unchanged and total PBRF funding is also unchanged

Win: me/colleagues don’t have portfolio prep stress while our PVC has us rewriting our programmes in a thinly veiled attempt to make it deliverable with fewer staff. Not a win: Gluckman overseeing the review so who knows what will happen. In the short term, PBRF funding will be based on 2018 figs.

Post PhD defence adrenaline surge exhaustion and brain fog setting in! Today I have locked my bike lock to a rack (but not to my bike on the other end), put the plastic lid of my food scraps pot into the compost bin and sent barely comprehensible emails. Roll on long weekend! #HappyButTired

Under the Education and Training Act 2020 NZ universities are required to act as 'a critic and conscience of society'. A senior government minister publicly announcing plans for retribution against an academic because they don't like the opinions expressed by them is deeply troubling and sinister.

Same! I didn't say it. Screw that. NZ has no reason to defer to the British monarchy. My primary reason for doing it was to get an NZ passport, as my British one is no longer an EU one 😱 And citizen just felt more solid—who knows if/when permanent resident rules might change
