In October 2021 New Zealand committed to NZ $1.3 billion in grant-based climate finance for the Pacific between 2022 and 2025. “We still don’t know if it will be renewed,” said New Zealand High Commissioner Si’alei Van Toor, leading to a few gentle digs at New Zealand in panel discussion #nzpol

Because so many journalists in NZ remain on Twitter, posted following there responding to an article in NZH today: “11 staff at the DIA’s Digital Safety Group will go” www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/public-se... Have my issues with DIA, but in imperfect system, DSG’s work vital. Weakening it doesn’t compute.

If the economic damages of climate change are at least 6x > the cost of mitigation (and probably much more imho), why aren’t we acting like it?
Because it’s not about economics: it’s about injustice. Those who hold the balance of power + wealth are not those who bear the brunt of the impacts.

It's a headline-worthy treat when one of these critters visits us. As they spend most of their time elsewhere, lets put effort into conserving elsewhere (the sub Antarctic islands and the Southern Ocean) so that we have the possability of these chance meetings.
