My thesis involved looking at carpal bones in the flippers from bottlenose dolphins who stranded and along the Texas coast. Some of the specimens were rather decomposed. After the stench from my data collection cleared the building, I was told to only thaw flippers out on weekends.

More coverage -this time from NPR - of attempt to grow heat tolerant Honduran coral in Florida labs "The idea of using foreign coral to do this has raised concern over mixing genetics. Still the concerns don’t outweigh what’s at stake...reefs have nearly disappeared in the state."
