If you've come here from X we're not having the same issue on this platform as we have there. The link to this article is still being miscategorized as spam despite our reports to X. The link to the investigation below should work on Bluesky as it appears to be an X only issue.

I would suggest that some of those inclined to the far right agree with the rhetoric but still somehow have the presence of mind to see that far right government would offer no credible solutions.

Interesting that a French colleague of mine was able to vote online. How secure is it? I don't know but banks manage it. Meanwhile arrangements for Brits abroad to vote are still hopeless.

I don't suppose Orbán raised the issue of the status and rights of the repressed Finno-Ugric minorities in Russia, including the closest relatives to Hungarian, the Khanty and Mansi, who can only dream of the rights ethnic Hungarians have in Ukraine.

The French system sort of allows you to get your protest vote out of the way in the first round and then vote sensibly in the second

In 1938 Hungary's leader Horthy made an agreement with a fascist dictator with the aim of recovering territories lost at Trianon. In 2024 Viktor Orbán meets with a Russian fascist dictator, probably with the aim of doing the same thing. I hope it ends equally badly for him.

The thing no one's talking about this morning is, whether they're aware of it or not, this has happened whilst the first effects of hard Brexit on our cost of living are being felt. If Labour insist on taking up this baton in full they're going to feel the effects of it next time

Nothing to be wildly excited about with Labour's current plans but it will at least be a functioning, serious government. The end of the era of pseudo-government of the past 5 years is very welcome.

Interesting to observe that Dutch (or Flemish at least) has a word 'wachtzaal' similar to the word 'vokzal' and also used here in connection with rail travel.

8 years on from the referendum and I'm at the airport in Holland getting stamped whilst Swiss, Norwegians etc. don't. Fingerprinting on the way. But there's no sign Labour is going to do anything to address this.

Good that they run a direct bus to Tilburg from Turnhout station. Easy connection and timings good (doubt that's by design tbh). Comfort wise the vehicle could be improved... 😬 #CrossBorderRail

In Belgium fireworks sales are legal but in Holland they aren't. Apparently lots of issues with smuggling. Have heard that the Dutch side has the sex shop but this may be apocryphal.

What do we reckon to this one @jonworth.eu as regards #CrossBorderRail? My heart says bring back the railway. My head says the buses work pretty well, run frequently and late in the evenings and take a direct route. But good that the route is preserved in case of an eventual sea change.

One unexpected outcome of Euro 2024 is that it's killing the myth of Germany having good trains. Perhaps people might start also reflecting that a state-owned railway, whilst having some pluses, is not the magic bullet.
