Also despite the fact that we’re in a damn swamp, the previous homeowners added a humidifier to the old hvac system, and the muppets integrated it into the new system (along with the aprilaire filter yay). Needless to say, we disabled the humidifier and added a dehumidifier to the basement.

The previous company put a mini-split in my bedroom, but that was in 2017 or 2018, and even my best efforts at cleaning it finally failed because we’re in a swamp, so mold is a way of life. I now have a portable ac in my bedroom.
We keep the house too hot for me and too cold for my wife. 🙃

For what it’s worth, floor hvac vents are absolute shit for humans. Great for fluffy dogs who get to sleep on them. But seriously shit otherwise.

So, any suggestions?
Would you stick a second unit in the house to handle the upstairs, with new ductwork? My wife had two AC units in her little two story house down south, and she was very happy with it.
Or would you do something else that we haven’t thought of?

The only insulation between the AC duct and the basement is the drywall ceiling, which is incredibly insufficient.
And no matter what, there’s a huge air connection between upstairs and downstairs in the form of the staircase/foyer.

When we moved in, the muppets who sold us our AC said the system we got could keep the upstairs cool and downstairs warm. Obviously this was a wildly inaccurate statement. As soon as any cold air enters the main AC line, the basement freezes.

The basement is finished. My wife turned the big basement room into her bedroom, but she’s easily chilled. I have the smaller master bedroom upstairs, but I’m always overheated. There are various reasons we don’t just switch - cats, bathroom layouts, etc.

There’s also an attic that’s empty.
There are air returns in the upstairs bedrooms on the walls near the ceiling and a big main air return at the top of the stairs. (The front door is mid-level, with a half flight up and a half flight down.)
The thermostat is in the upstairs hallway.

Fair - and thank you!
Our house is a weird two story rectangular house. The basement is half underground, with the main AC trunk running side to side in the basement ceiling. Branches go towards the front and back, with vents in the basement ceiling and upstairs floor. 1/x

Electrical cords are a hazard around here, with zooming borzois and excited Trazyn. 🤣

The Shark we had was good for quite a few years, until it got an electrical fault. I only used the handheld dust collector, hose, and long stick part. The big brush part always just got in the way.
Any suggestions on brands that are workhorses but not $$$$ dysons?

Our vacuum died a couple weeks back (part of a trifecta with the leaking dishwasher line and non-functioning AC). I’m looking to replace it.
We only have wood floors. We have A LOT of fur tumbleweeds.
I’m looking for something lightweight, bagels, & battery operated, with easily changed filters.

Borzois are magical. When they curl up, they fold space and become smol. This is actually a survival trait, because nearby humans are tempted to offer snax to help smol dogs grow.

Y'all need to buy @swordsjew.bsky.social new book, which I am referencing here cause I don't think you fully understand the depth and breadth of the evangelical right's depraved, evil agenda and stranglehold on the country. Talia lays it all out. It is *essential* reading for all Americans.
