(It was 1989. Sydney's "red rattlers" routinely ran with their doors open. A young boy, who was messing around in the doorway, was injured. Happily the "rattlers" are long gone.)

As a kid I was involved in an incident which made me permanently nervous around trains. These protesters are using their bodies to stop coal trains. It gives me the absolute heebie jeebies. Regardless of your take on direct action -- what courage! www.abc.net.au/news/2024-07...

When/if H5N1 makes the jump to sustained human-to-human transmission, the virus might not resemble the current stockpiled vaccine. The mRNA option allows for a better match to that hypothetical strain, as well as much faster mass production if needed.

Okay folks. In the absence of my eventual guide to alt text for images of text on social media, a reminder: Do not put URLs (aka links to webpages) in alt text. They don't work and they will often get read out letter by letter. Especially do not put a URL in alt text in the place of alt text.

Just saw another display name in "fancy" letters (they look like they're from a typewriter) and you should know that screen readers do not treat those as normal letters and read the whole word. They read the name of each individual character. Every single time.
