Scarlett Johansson says Sam Altman asked her to voice ChatGPT, she said no, and he used an imitation of her voice anyways. Perhaps this says something about his treatment of women and people in general www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-ne...
Someone said the way that chat gpt and the image generation ai were done by stealing content were symptoms of a rapist mindset. I think about that phrase more and more every day, but no moreso than today.
I would also wager this says something about how tech people misunderstand the entire point of the movie “Her,” since Sam told Scarlett people would find her likeness comforting coming from an AI chatbot. Then he tweeted “her” before a product demonstration using the voice
The thing is, no matter what, horrible rich people will do whatever they want to make a dollar. So while Scarlet Johansson is the victim here, it’s not like it’s gonna stop a capitalist from capitalizing.
Wait what? They got a different voice actor. ScarJo can’t get mad just because someone else also sounds like her. OpenAI wanted a specific voice, Scarlett said no, so they got someone else. Why is this an issue? Did they actually use Scarlett’s voice w/o permission? They’re not that dumb, right?
It makes it harder to trust the direction AI is headed. Initially I don't have an issue with AI until misuse is involved.
There needs to be preventative and protective measures when it comes to permission and commercial use, etc.
I've said this elsewhere; the ask for consent is performative. There are many, mostly with the letters Mr in front of their names, who cannot and will not accept no for an answer. We have to make them pay, out the ass, in terms of $$ which is all that matters to them.
I just keep thinking back to that part where the women fled/were chased off the board.
If only we could have predicted that he is a garbage person who clearly doesn't respect women in particular.... 🫠
A simple accounting of what she gets paid to be in a movie can establish what her appearance in a commercial venture is worth, and Altman just flat out stole her identity. It’s whatever level of larceny it is when you steal hundreds of millions of dollars
perhaps the conversation was Sam’s opportunity to collect a bespoke voice sample for the impersonation machine. “Scarlett could you repeat that? Would you mind reading this poem to me before we get too far into the call? It would be… delightful” (Sam finger-tents his cold hands)
